The decision support system proposed within the project uses last generation elements and methods developed by multi-disciplinary incorporation of advanced technologies used until now in other fields. The precision management of the pests for the sugar-beet crops is coming from the concept named „Precision Agriculture” and its an innovative system that allows assessing very well some system processes (identified from spectral images taken from air robots) that are spatial (changes of the agro-system configuration on the research areas), temporal (seasonal changes, for example from year to year), predictive (differences between the present conditions and the ones foreseen by the configuration of the farming system).
The experienced models for the remote sensing of the pests aim to realize an agricultural system that would increase the performance through a management for each phase of the project development regarding:
I. The estimation of the diseases’ influence on the spectral reflectance of the sugar-beets,
II. The identification of the relationship between pests and the foliar area’s indices;
III. The automat recognition of different stress types that affect the canopy reflectance.
Within the proposed project the precision management of the pests to the sugar-beet crop is realized on the basis of the recommendations of a support decision system that includes:
(i)The identification and the automat mark out of the diseases and the pest insects through the analysis of the multi-spectral images provided by video cameras located on UAV (Unmanned aerial vehicles, air robots);
(ii)geo-referential administration (in geographic informational system, GIS) of the image data and their correlation with other data of interest to control the pests (soil characteristics, topographical model of the field, specific climatic data, history of the field usage, previous data regarding the pests and the damages in the area);
(iii)finding of the optimal way to control the pests that correspond both to the given situation (namely the realization of the economy’s efficiency), and to the agro-environment requests.
This approach, that permit yield prognosis, is very useful because of the economically explanation of the agro-technical methods including pest treatments and adequate size of the farm activities. By these two components, taking over the spectral images from the sugar-beet and data analysis will increase the performance in the agricultural farms.
In the sugar-beet’s case the inputs are ensured by the sugar factories that need much more the producers’ associations to ensure them with an efficient management system of the risks comprised in the sugar-beet crop (and that are, in this case, risks of regaining in advance some expenses). A forecast system on medium term, efficient and trustful, would simplify the financial administration and would improve the cash flows of the sugar factories.
The final aim of the proposed project is to obtain an accuracy technology for the sugar-beet pests (quickly diagnostic of the attack, to appreciate the opportunity of the treatment and warning it, integrate of the control methods).
